Health and Safety tips

Awico Engineering Company Ltd is committed to fulfilling its duties as an employer and as a client of other employers for the implementation of its client’s requests in protecting the health, safety and welfare of all stake holders who may be affected by the Company. The Company is further committed to protect the environment in line with the permissions, laws, guidelines and performing standards applicable to the Company.
Awico Engineering Company Ltd we recognize, respect and adhere to HSE policies as they largely relate to our operations. BFL is committed to operational excellence. This steadfast commitment is founded on our respect for social and environmental issues, a core value that effectively and efficiently drives achievement of our sustainable economic growth and financial performance business goals. Our vision of viewing Awico Engineering Company Ltd as the most competent and outstanding company in the freight management industry in Uganda and East Africa at large is deeply rooted in our work climate; our expectation is that no one gets hurt and nothing gets harmed.

Our Statement of policy is:

  • To maintain safe and healthy working conditions at all our facilities; we are all accountable for ourselves and the safety of others in the workplace. Working safely is a condition of employment.
  • To provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities; People are our most important resource, and as such, safety is unequivocally our number one core value. We must constantly strive to achieve zero injuries and illnesses.
  • To consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety; our efforts must be focused on prevention of occupational injury and illness; therefore, we strive to provide requisite training to our employees to empower our incident prevention culture.
  • All personnel must use the recommended personal protective equipment in the execution of all tasks.
  • To ensure all employees and contractors are accountable for performing their daily activities in a manner consistent with our HSE policy.
  • To provide information, instruction and supervision for employees; when an injury or serious incident occurs, we thoroughly and completely determine its cause and share the lessons learned with our associates.
  • To ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Our work with the public and regulatory authorities always is conducted in an atmosphere of trust, openness and cooperation.
  • To review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.
  • This policy covers all forms of company activities on and away from the main site.

Commitment and involvement by all persons on site is required to ensure the success of this Policy.

Environmental Management Policy Statement

Awico Engineering Company Ltd Environmental Impact Management Policy states the principles which we have adopted to ensure that we effectively manage our operations to minimize our impact on the environment and our consumption of energy and our carbon footprint. It encompasses the fundamental hierarchy of reduce, reuse and recycle and acknowledges that as a global company operating in the energy hungry logistics sector we have a special duty of care to all governments, business partners, customers, supply sources and society as a whole. By adopting and rigorously enforcing this policy as part of our corporate governance we will ensure our impact on the environment is ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable) and that our response to climate change is highly effective. It will demonstrate to the stakeholders in our business that our reputation for conducting business with integrity is maintained and that we are fully committed to supplying our services at the lowest possible total cost consistent with world best practices in Environmental and Energy Management and the technical and commercial needs of our customers. It reflects the way we operate as a good Corporate Citizen.
The policy framework helps us to apply consistent principles in the many different circumstances in which we operate around the world. The principles are an essential part of our Total Supply Chain Management and Continuous Improvement Systems.
Our Senior Management will provide visible, strong and pro-active leadership and commitment to develop, implement, audit and maintain these principles as part of our corporate culture. We expect all our people and supply partners to be aware and to practice these principles. The policy will be reviewed annually or to meet changed circumstances.
